The Judo You Become is the new book by Alfredo Vismara, Hanshi of the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai: my journey into the pedagogical roots of Kanō Jigorō’s Judo. It comes from more than sixty years of practice, teaching and research. This edition is in Italian.

Starting from the Jujutsu schools of Tenjin Shin’yō and Kitō up to Kanō’s synthesis, the book takes the reader back to the educational origins of Judo: not a sport and not just a technique, but a path that shapes the whole person, body, mind and character.

What you will find in the book

  • The roots of Judo in the Tenjin Shin’yō and Kitō Jujutsu schools and Kanō Jigorō’s synthesis.

  • Kata as an educational tool rather than a rigid form, randori as study rather than a clash, rank as a stage rather than a goal.

  • The principles of Seiryoku Zen’yō and Jita Kyōei, to be understood through the body.

  • Historical sources, original quotations from Kanō, personal accounts and memories of the masters met over a lifetime of Judo.

  • Transmission between Master and student, which happens through the relationship even before words and techniques.

    The prefaces

    • Yves Cadot, scholar, writer and translator of Kanō’s original texts.

    • Nomura Toyokazu, Olympic champion in Munich 1972 and world champion in 1973.

    • Emmanuel Charlot, founder and editor-in-chief of L’Esprit du Judo.

      Who it is for

For practitioners, teachers and anyone who wants to understand what Judo can become in a person’s life.

Limited first edition: only 100 copies.
