“Kime no Kata does not only teach you to react. It teaches you to decide.” – Alfredo Vismara
Kime no Kata, born as Shinken shobu no kata, is together with Kodokan Goshin Jutsu one of the great references for studying Shobu Ho, the real-combat side of Judo. A kata in which precision, distance, timing and determination become essential, and in which being decisive does not mean being aggressive.
What is included
- Kime no Kata technical lesson (15 October 2022). The history of the kata, weapons etiquette, the distances between Tori and Uke, kiai and the Idori and Tachi Ai techniques, explained step by step along with the reason behind every movement.
- 1988 instructional video. Alfredo Vismara with his brother Beppe performs Kime no Kata and Kodokan Goshin Jutsu.
- Exclusive Idori tutorial. The part of the kata performed kneeling.
- Exclusive Tachi Ai tutorial. The part of the kata performed standing.
Why choose the bundle
Four videos to study the same kata from different angles: the technical lesson explains, the 1988 video shows the performance of Kime no Kata and Kodokan Goshin Jutsu, and the tutorials guide your study part by part, Idori and Tachi Ai. More tools to use in practice and in teaching.
Bought separately they would cost €347: with the bundle you get them for €197.
How to use it
Not just to watch the techniques, but to study them, understand them and then try them on the tatami with your Uke. A concrete idea for teachers: devote five or ten minutes of every class to the kata, choosing each time one technique, one distance, one position or one detail of the relationship between Tori and Uke. In Judo, continuity is worth more than big occasional preparations.
Who it is for
For Judoka preparing Kime no Kata for grading exams, for teachers who want to pass it on steadily throughout the year, and for anyone who wants to know Judo as a whole: kata, randori and Shobu Ho.
All content is available to watch online in the Online Dojo.
