PINOCCHIO IN THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN
A tale intended to be judoistic, this Adventures of Pinocchio in the land of the Rising Sun.
It consists of a fairy tale, an alternative continuation of Carlo Lorenzini’s—that is, Collodi’s—masterpiece, and a philosophical teaching imparted by the imaginary Master Terada to define ‘good’ judo, the kind that constitutes a symbolic initiation and can make Pinocchio die as a wooden puppet to be reborn as a good boy, in flesh and blood.
Here the hero lands in Japan and becomes fascinated with judo. From his earliest experiences as a puppet, he had been a rascal. But Japan has its magic, and he becomes fascinated by a judo-education dojo, contrasted with another that teaches nothing but how to beat one’s opponent.
